It's a matter of misplaced priorities these days. Too many people are being serious about very small matters and unserious about very great ones.

Scientists have discovered a reserve of oil that may be twice the size of what Saudi Arabia now has left. That'd probably be enough oil, if developed properly, to stave off the peak oil crisis for another hundred years or more -- enough time to further develop viable sources of alternate energy.
